Ryan Adams at 9:30 Club: Performer and his fans find a comfort zone in D.C. show

Ryan Adams's performance Monday at the 9:30 Club was a competent exercise in tuneful rock music and unfailingly offbeat humor. Missing, alas, was a grander sense of just how this chatty, nervous-energy-exuding, disheveled, Batman-T-shirt-wearing 39-year-old came to command such an indulgent sellout audience in the first place.
